This is a small question - you have two identical beakers of water, one with salt water, and one with tap water. You put one ice cube into each. Which ice cube will melt the fastest?

Is it that simple ? You put salt on snow to melt it when the outside temp is between the freezing temps of pure water and salty water. If the temp were very low I don\'t think salt would work. i.e. cold enough to freeze salty water.

If the two ice cubes have the same surface area in contact with the liquid, and both liquids are at the same temp, then I think the answer would be - at the same rate.

i think it is salt water because i think the salt has a reaction with the ice and starts to melt it

you put salt on roads to prevent it from freezing, so in the salt water it will prevent the ice from expanding if you know what i mean
